African dust “covered” Attica in the last 24 hours. From Crete to the Evros, a thick orange veil enveloped entire cities, while Athens looked like a landscape from the planet Mars.
The phenomenon caused problems for vulnerable groups and was strongly commented on in Social Media. It is gradually leaving our country, leaving, however, layers of dust on balconies and vehicles. The dust has now moved to the Dodecanese, where everything has been submerged in a thick layer of soil, while an eerie scene prevails in the city of Mytilene.

As scientists reported to ERT, such a dust transfer phenomenon occurs on average 4 to 5 days each year. However, they point to an increase in the frequency of episodes and their appearance earlier in the summer season.
Today Wednesday (24/4) in the morning in Attica the dust was intense. It is characteristic that on Tuesday the dust levels were at 40 micrograms per cubic meter, while today they reached 700. A record was recorded in Chania with 800 micrograms per cubic meter.
The Ministry of Health recommends that people with respiratory problems, heart patients, small children and those over 65 years of age avoid staying and being active outdoors and wear a mask.
