It became clear where R. Kurlianskis will serve his prison sentence

15min reminds that three persons were sentenced to imprisonment in the “MG Baltic” case.

R. Kurlianskis received six years behind bars, former leader of the Liberal Movement Eligijus Masiulis – six and a half years, and current parliamentarian, representative of the Labor Party Vytautas Gapšys – five and a half years.

Remains in Kaunas

Until now, all three convicts have spent their days and nights in the so-called “officers’ prison” located in Kaunas, on Technikos street.

However, since R. Kurlianskis is not and has never been a politician or official, he will have to serve his sentence in another prison.

Virginija Vervečkaitė, the press representative of the Prison Service, informed on Monday 15minthat the former vice president of “MG Baltic” will serve his sentence in the former detention center in Kaunas, located on A. Mickevičius Street.

At that time, E.Masiulis and V.Gapšys will continue to remain in the “officers’ prison”.

All three convicts have been behind bars since November 24, when they presented themselves at the specified police stations in Vilnius and Klaipėda, and were then transferred to Kaunas prison.

The decision can be appealed

The place of punishment is chosen taking into account the danger posed by the convicted person, public safety, the seriousness and nature of the crime committed, the convicted person’s health, psychological characteristics, age, ability to work, specialty.

The interests of the convict’s minor children and the place of residence of his relatives can also be taken into account. Among other things, the number of vacant places in prisons is taken into account.

The decision on the final place of punishment is made by the head of the prison. In this case, it is Kaunas prison chief Mindaugas Zaikauskas.

According to V. Vervečkaitė, this decision can be appealed to the director of the Prison Service within a month.

Seeks to suspend the execution of the sentence

Both R.Kurlianskis, E.Masiulis, and V.Gapšys have appealed the decision of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal, by which they were sentenced to prison terms, to the Supreme Court of Lithuania.

Together with the cassation appeals, requests to suspend the execution of the prison sentence were also submitted.

As BNS previously wrote, their requests should be considered in about one to three weeks.
