On the first of November 2022, hotel establishments at the level of the Republic will start implementing the decision on minimum accommodation prices, in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in conjunction with the improvement in hotel occupancy rates in Egypt during the first half of 2022.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities seeks to address the phenomenon of “burning prices” and to develop the return on Egyptian tourism, in addition to raising the quality of hotel services.
The Ministry has set a minimum price for accommodation in hotel establishments, provided that the application is effective from November 1, 2022, as follows:
$50 for five-star hotels.
– $40 for four-star hotels.
$30 for three-star hotels.
$20 for two star hotels.
$10 for one star hotels.
In the context of supporting cultural tourism, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities granted a 50% discount on ticket prices in Upper Egypt, New Valley and Fayoum, and granted a 40% discount on combined tickets for the Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh museums.
The decision to set a minimum price for accommodation in hotel establishments aims to address the phenomenon of price burning, which some hotels have resorted to, as well as to preserve the tax rights of the state. Because hotels are economic establishments, the state must obtain a return from the privileges it obtains, including residing in coastal areas
The number of tourist arrivals to Egypt jumped by 85.4 percent in the first half of this year, reaching 4.9 million tourists, compared to 2.6 million a year ago, but it is still lower compared to 6.1 million tourists in the first half of 2019, according to a statement by the Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics.
The government is seeking to address the phenomenon of burning prices and develop the Egyptian tourism return, in addition to raising the quality of hotel services, in conjunction with the improvement in hotel occupancy rates in Egypt during the first half of 2022, and expectations of a better winter season than last year.
