Pancreatic cancer often does not show symptoms in the early stages, however, steatorrhea is a major sign to look out for.

Although you might associate changes in stool with bowel cancer, pancreatic cancer might also be the cause, and “steatorrhoea” describes excess fat in the stool, which changes its structure and appearance.

According to Cancer Research UK, size, color and smell are all telltale signs of pancreatic cancer.

And you may go through frequent large bowel movements that have a dull color and an unpleasant smell, and it is difficult to get rid of them, according to the website of the British Express newspaper.

These changes in the intestines also mean that you are not absorbing your food properly, which leads to weight loss.

These four red flags also help identify pancreatic cancer stool and signal that it’s time to see a doctor.

Steatorrhea usually develops when pancreatic cancer begins in the head of this organ, making it more susceptible to compression of the bile ducts, and if the duct becomes blocked, this can lead to these foul-smelling and visual symptoms.

However, changes in stool are not the only sign of pancreatic cancer, and there are a host of other symptoms, including:

Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice).

itchy skin

Darker urine color.

Pale stools than usual.

Loss of appetite or losing weight without trying.

Feeling tired or lack of energy.

Fever or shivering.

feeling sick

Diarrhea, constipation, or other stool changes.

Pain in the upper abdomen and back.

Indigestion symptoms.

These symptoms do not necessarily mean that you have pancreatic cancer, as they are caused by other conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome.

How to reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer?

Reduce the amount of red and processed meat.

Try to lose weight if you are overweight.

Quit Smoking.

Reduce your alcohol intake.
