The artist, Mohamed Abdel Rahman, gave advice to smokers, following recovering from his recent health crisis, saying: “Smoking means that one dies slowly.”

The artist, Mohamed Abdel Rahman, known as “Tota”, recently underwent an open heart operation, at Dar Al Fouad Hospital, due to smoking.

“Tota” said during an interview on “Radio 9090”: “We must dispense with smoking because it is deadly.. I was a heavy smoker and I might not imagine that I would pass a day without smoking.. I loved something that she did not love and would kill me.. I always heard the words.” What I say is this now, and I say it is normal, until I went through this terrifying issue.”

In this regard, we review the most prominent negative effects of smoking on health, according to Dr. Zaid Zoumot, Head of the Department of Pulmonary Diseases at the Respiratory Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

It increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, brain damage, asthma, COPD, lung cancer, eye disease, diabetes and reproductive problems.

Smoking damages almost all parts of the body, steals many years from a person’s life and is one of the most common and preventable causes of death worldwide.

Smokers become addicted to nicotine, which is found in tobacco, which in turn contains many cancer-causing chemicals. When a person smokes tobacco, they are exposed to many harmful components including tar, which affects lung tissue, carbon monoxide, which reduces the supply of oxygen to organs, and oxidizing chemicals, which damage cardiovascular muscles.

Nicotine rapidly increases the amount of harmful fats in the blood, such as bad cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides, and reduces the amount of good cholesterol or HDL, which greatly increases a smoker’s risk of heart disease and stroke.

Regular smoking of between one and five cigarettes per day significantly increases the risk of a heart attack.

Increasing insulin resistance in the body, which increases a person’s chances of developing type 2 diabetes.

Smokers are more susceptible to respiratory diseases than others.

Smoking narrows blood vessels and can contribute to erectile dysfunction and fertility problems.

Here are five ways to quit smoking:

. Make a plan to quit smoking

You will be more willing to quit smoking when you identify your reasons for taking this step, such as your family and disease risk, then set a date and work to reduce the number of cigarettes you consume.

. Rely on your loved ones

Get the support of family and friends to encourage you to stay on track with your plan to quit smoking, and be sure to reach out to them, meet them, or organize joint activities when you feel you need to smoke.

. Seek medical advice

Consult a doctor, who will be able to assess your health and suggest necessary tests and required changes in diet and lifestyle, as well as medications, that can help you quit smoking. Join a dedicated smoking cessation program for ongoing support throughout your journey.

. Avoid triggers

Change your daily routine to avoid the temptations that make you crave tobacco. And if you have a strong craving to smoke, try a healthy snack or herbal tea instead.

. Focus on diet and fitness

Eating nutritious foods and following an exercise regimen will help maintain your energy levels, reduce stress and prevent withdrawal symptoms.
