Al-Marsad newspaper: The Food and Drug Authority has warned once morest the use of bitter (bitter) in high quantities, because it leads to irregular heartbeat in addition to the occurrence of infections in the kidneys.
The authority clarified that it is strictly prohibited to use it on nursing mothers as well as pregnant women, because it stimulates the contraction of the uterus, and may cause miscarriage and bleeding, as well as it should be discontinued two weeks before performing surgeries, as it lowers blood sugar.
And she indicated that its use may conflict with some medications, such as warfarin, as it may lead to blood clotting and stroke, as well as working with diabetes medications to lower blood sugar, below the permissible limit.
She pointed out that the permissible quantities range from 2 to 4 grams per day as a maximum, and they are used as a treatment in alternative medicine to heal sores of the gums, stomach, intestines and skin wounds, as an antiseptic mouthwash, and to relieve cold symptoms.
