Heads of state have always known where life is good – even if they were committed to communism. This also applies to Josip Broz Tito, former head of state of Yugoslavia. He loved the small archipelago of Brijuni (Brioni) in the Croatian Adriatic at the southern tip of Istria. He was here regularly, receiving state guests like Nikita Khrushchev and stars like Sophia Loren. A Tito museum reminds us of this sophisticated time. The exotic animals and tropical plants that he received as gifts on his many official trips found a home here.
