Istat: in January construction production +3.7% on month, +18.8% on year

In January 2024, the seasonally adjusted construction production index is estimated to grow by 3.7% compared to December. Istat reports this in its flash estimate. «In January 2024 the seasonally adjusted construction production index recorded the highest level of the last two years, recording the fourth consecutive month of economic growth. Even for the index corrected for calendar effects, in comparison with January 2023, a substantial and accelerating increase is observed compared to previous months”, is reported by the Statistics Institute. On a trend basis, the raw index recorded an increase of 18.8%, while the index adjusted for calendar effects grew by 14.8% (calendar working days were 22 compared to 21 in January 2023).

Quarter average

On average for the quarter November 2023 – January 2024, production in construction increased by 4.9% compared to the previous quarter. Starting from this flash statistic, specifies Istat, the construction production index is released in the new reference base 2021=100. On the occasion of this update, it is underlined that the methodology for estimating the index itself has been completely revised.
