Issues From Gender Equality to the Environment Color the 2024 Paris Olympics

The 2024 Paris Olympics officially ended early Monday (12/8). There were many unique things in the implementation of this multi-sport event. From record-breaking, to environmental issues and gender equality. Here are some numbers and facts about this big event as summarized from Xinhua.

30% – The Olympic Village (Athletes’ Village) is built with 30% less carbon than typical building construction in France.

50% – 28 out of 32 sports achieved full gender parity. Women accounted for 50% of the 45,000 volunteers involved.

4 – A total of four countries won their first Olympic gold medals, including Botswana, Dominica, Guatemala and Saint Lucia.

9.5 – More than 9.5 of the 10 million match tickets sold.

30 – For 30 minutes of daily physical activity in primary schools was adopted as French national policy and introduced in all 36,800 French primary schools.

32 – A total of 32 world records were broken in 8 sports disciplines.

30,000 – Through the organization of the Olympic Games, 30,000 people in France have been trained in new skills for future careers, improving their abilities and career prospects.

48,000 – More than 48,000 Olympic fans took part in the first mass participation event held at the Games, the Marathon Pour Tous, on August 10.

280,000 – A total of 280,000 people enjoyed the Champions Park celebration space at the Eiffel Tower, cheering on 600 medal winners from all over the world.

743,000 – On July 30, approximately 743,000 spectators attended the matches held that day.

1,000,000 – Nearly one million people took to the streets to watch the two Olympic road cycling races on August 3 and 4.

3,200,000 – More than 32 million new followers joined Olympic social media during Paris 2024, more than triple the growth seen during Tokyo 2020. (M-3)
