JERUSALEM (Archyde.com) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has postponed the sacking of Defense Minister Gallant, which was announced on March 26. A person familiar with the matter said Thursday.

Gallant publicly demanded that Netanyahu’s government’s judicial system reforms be halted, leading to the announcement of his dismissal. This reform included strengthening of the government’s authority to appoint legal professionals and a provision that the Supreme Court’s decision might be overturned by a resolution of the Diet.

This month, on the other hand, coincides with the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan and the Jewish Passover, and it is also a time of heightened tensions over religious conflicts.

In the midst of this, an official explained, “Because of the current security situation, the issue of the defense minister’s replacement will be postponed.”
