Kan said that Netanyahu recently attended a meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee in the Knesset, and explained that “Israel’s desire is to create a buffer zone up to the Litani River,” with “Hezbollah being pushed behind it.”

Later, a senior politician told the same committee that Israel might be content, following discussions with American and French mediators, with moving Hezbollah to a distance of only a few kilometers.

But “in such a case, Hezbollah’s infrastructure will not be evacuated from the area, not even to the point where its fighters will move,” according to the broadcasting authority.

“This means that Hezbollah’s weapons depots, military sites, and other infrastructure will remain in place, even those close to the border,” according to the Kan report.

The border areas between Israel and Lebanon have witnessed a daily exchange of shells and missiles between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, since the Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip began last October.

On Monday, Israeli media revealed that Hezbollah had begun withdrawing its elite forces, known as the “Radwan Force,” from the border areas, amid fears of a sudden attack by the Israeli army that would lead to a growing conflict in the region.
