The Israeli military has taken operational control of the Rafah Crossing south of Gaza, which borders Egypt. Even special forces are combing the area.

Israeli troops have been operating since last night in certain areas of eastern Rafah, where most people and several international organizations have been evacuated from there.

In the morning press conference, his party also said that the Kerem Shalom crossing was closed on Tuesday (7/5) for security reasons and would be reopened once the security situation allows.

On Tuesday (7/5) morning, a spokesman for the Gaza border authority confirmed the closure of crossings between the Gaza Strip and Egypt due to the presence of Israeli tanks.

Three humanitarian sources told Reuters that the flow of aid through the crossing had been stopped.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that Israel’s ground invasion of the city of Rafah in southern Gaza could not be tolerated.

“A ground invasion of Rafah cannot be tolerated,” Guterres said on Monday (6/5)

He called on Israel and Hamas to work harder to reach a ceasefire agreement.

“Today I am making a very strong appeal to the Israeli government and Hamas leadership to make extra efforts to realize this truly important agreement,” he said.

In his meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattarella at UN headquarters in New York, he said this was an opportunity that should not be missed, and that a ground invasion in Rafah could not be tolerated because of its grave humanitarian impact.
