The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that it found five premature babies dead in a hospital in Gaza City during the temporary truce with Israel.

Gaza Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra told Agence France-Presse that Israeli soldiers closed the intensive care ward at Al-Nasr Children’s Hospital, and doctors were finally able to “enter the ward on Tuesday evening.”

Al-Qudra added, “The occupation forces left five premature babies” who were found “partially decomposed.” He continued, “The soldiers prevented families from approaching” the newborn babies before Tuesday.

Before the truce entered into force on Friday, following seven weeks of fighting, Israeli raids targeted several hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip, and some of them were evacuated on orders from the Israeli army.

Earlier this month, the world followed the fate of 39 premature babies during the Israeli forces’ siege of Al-Shifa Hospital.

The Hamas-run Ministry of Health said that eight of them died due to a lack of electricity to operate their incubators, and 31 others were evacuated, most of them to Egypt, to receive treatment.
