Israeli officials stressed that the conflict between the two sides also harms reaching a decision on the “day following the war.”
The newspaper says that the open dispute between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant is worrying senior officials in the security services.
Sources confirmed to the channel that Netanyahu and Galant do not speak to each other outside of official discussions.
One source said that the dispute between Netanyahu and Galant turns the Israeli army, the Shin Bet and the Mossad into mediators in wartime.
Another source said that one of the reasons Israel has not reached a decision on the “day following” issue is that Netanyahu “will not agree” to accept the plan presented by Galant, even though the latter’s outlines are not far from the prime minister’s.
Another source indicated that “it has been a long time since a tripartite meeting was held between the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of Staff.”
In response to the reports, Netanyahu’s office said: “The prime minister, the defense minister and the government ministers are working together to achieve all the goals of the war: releasing the abductees, eliminating the movement of the factions, and preventing a future threat from Gaza.”
For his part, Galant’s office stated that “the prime minister and the defense minister are working together to achieve the war’s goals and are holding meetings in relevant forums as appropriate.”
In addition, Channel 12 reported on Monday evening that Defense Minister Yoav Galant asked the relatives of the Israeli prisoners to pressure Netanyahu to complete the deal.
The channel quoted Galant as saying: “The deal is close, go to the prime minister.”
“The security services have no objection to signing the deal. This is your chance to approach the Prime Minister before he travels to the United States.”
