Jerusalem (CNN) — The Israeli army announced, on Tuesday, that it had launched raids on the Gaza Strip, targeting military sites belonging to the “Hamas” movement, in response to rocket fire from the Strip.

The Israeli army said, in a statement, that “the fighter jets bombed a military site, a weapons store, weapons manufacturing sites, and a training facility belonging to Hamas, in addition to a cement manufacturing site used by Hamas in its infrastructure.”

“The strike was carried out in response to the firing of rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory earlier today,” he added, adding that “this strike severely damages the capabilities of the terrorist organization Hamas regarding the acquisition of weapons.”

The Israeli army confirmed that “Hamas bears responsibility for all terrorist activities emanating from the Gaza Strip, and will pay the price for security violations.”

According to CNN’s Jerusalem and Gaza team, sirens continued into the early hours of Wednesday morning in Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip, indicating rocket fire from Gaza.

The Israeli army has not yet determined the number of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.

On the other hand, the “Hamas” movement announced, in a statement, that the head of the movement’s political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, had contacted Egypt and Qatar regarding the Israeli military strikes on Gaza.

The statement stated that “Haniyeh holds the occupation responsible for the consequences of the continuation of this brutal aggression,” according to the statement.

Hamas said, in a statement issued early Wednesday, that Ismail Haniyeh had contacted Tor Wiensland, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, “about the Israeli aggression against our people, and the last thing that Gaza is now exposed to, and holds the occupation responsible.” What might result from the continuation of this aggression,” according to the statement.
