Israeli raid shuts down Aleppo international airport

An air raid led by Israel caused the decommissioning of Aleppo international airport, the official Syrian news agency SANA reported on Tuesday morning, citing a military source.

Since the beginning of the war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in its neighbor, primarily targeting positions of the Syrian army, Iranian forces and Lebanese Hezbollah, allies of the Syrian regime. Israel regularly asserts that it will not allow Iran to extend its influence to its borders.

The Israeli army intensified last year his attacks against Syrian airports in order to disrupt arms deliveries from Iran to allied militias in Syria and Lebanon.

In early January, strikes targeted Damascus airporttargeting, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), “positions of the Hezbollah and pro-Iranian groups in and around the airport, including an arms depot.”
