Thousands of Israelis protested in front of the Knesset on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of “betraying” the popular trust. Pressure is increasing on Netanyahu, after opponents of his government and the families of the hostages held in Gaza found a common cause. The hostages’ families say they will take to the streets every night this week, trying to “bring them home”.

Thousands of Israelis demonstrated, including a number of relatives of the hostages held in Gazaagain on Tuesday evening, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of “betraying” the popular trust.

Einav Zangawker shouted on the radio, addressing Netanyahu: “You are waging a campaign against me, against the families of the hostages. You have turned against us. You are a traitor to your people, to your voters, and to the State of Israel.”

Matan, Zangawker’s son, has been detained since the Hamas attack on October 7, which sparked the war in the Gaza Strip between the Hebrew state and the movement.

The woman added in front of the Israeli parliament, while demonstrators gathered for the fourth evening in a row since Saturday, said: “You bear responsibility for October 7 in every possible way. You are obstructing an agreement regarding the hostages, and you are not leaving us with a choice. You must leave your position, and we will continue to pursue you, and we will not let you.” It’s up to you, day or night, as long as my son Mattan is a hostage in Gaza.

Then, former Labor Prime Minister Ehud Barak called for holding “elections now,” warning that “the entry of Rafah (by the army, according to what the government pledged) will take place within a few weeks, but the elimination of Hamas (will not take place) before a few months, and waiting for… Therefore, the hostages will return in coffins,” he said, adding that “even if the release of the hostages requires a ceasefire, crushing Hamas is possible.”
