Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Debate between Israeli and Russian Ambassadors on Occupation and Self-Defense in Gaza

Washington: In the emergency session of the UN General Assembly, Russian diplomat Vasily Nebenzia said that the IDF’s occupation of Gaza cannot be seen as a reason for self-defense.

But Israel retorted that Russia has no right to talk regarding human rights.

“Israel’s occupation can never be seen as self-defense. Because they have no authority in the Gaza Strip.

They are taking power. Russia has not denied Israel’s right to fight terrorism.

But it does not have to fight ordinary citizens of Gaza. “Jews must understand better than anyone else that killing innocent people will not restore justice,” Nebenzia told an emergency session of the U.N. General Assembly.

But Israel accused Russia of denying Israel its right to self-defense. Israeli diplomat Gilad Erdan said that Russia is trying to divert the world’s attention from the military operations being carried out by Russia in Ukraine.

It is ridiculous that the Russian representative is lecturing Israel regarding human rights and international law. Russia was expelled from the UN Human Rights Council.

So the last place to preach to us is Moscow,’ said Israeli diplomat Gilad Erdan.

In April 2022, Moscow was suspended from the UN body following the Ukraine-Russia war.

The Gaza Ministry of Health has reported that more than 9,000 Palestinians have been killed in the current Israeli offensive in Gaza. 3,700 of them are children.
