Morocco and Israel discussed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of security to lay the foundations of a security partnership that serves the common interests of both countries.
This is what emerges from a meeting between the director general of Moroccan National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi and the general commissioner of the Israeli police, Yaakov Shabtai, held Tuesday in the capital, Rabat, according to a press release published Thursday by the Directorate. The press release specifies that this meeting is part of a working visit made since Monday by the general commissioner of the Israeli police, at the head of a security delegation, to the Kingdom of Morocco.
The visit aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of security and to lay the foundations for a security partnership that serves the common interests of the Kingdom of Morocco and Israel.
It also aims to share experiences and expertise in all areas of security, particularly in the areas of the fight once morest terrorism and various forms of transnational organized crime, according to the same press release.
Last month, Israeli army chief of staff Aviv Kokhavi visited Morocco, followed by a visit by Israeli justice minister Gideon Sa’ar.
On December 10, 2020, Israel and Morocco announced the resumption of diplomatic relations between them following their suspension in 2000, following Rabat froze relations, due to the outbreak of the second Palestinian intifada.
Morocco is the fourth Arab country to accept normalization with Israel in 2020, following the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan, while Egypt and Jordan have two peace agreements with Israel, concluded respectively in 1979 and in 1994.
