THE Israeli military is preparing to carry out a large-scale military response against Iran after Tehran launched a massive missile attack earlier this week in response to the killing of a number of senior Hezbollah and Hamas leaders. This was the claim by the Israeli media on Saturday (5/10).

The Israeli Public Broadcasting Company reported that the Israeli army was preparing a major and severe retaliation against Iran. This follows Iran’s ballistic missile attacks on Israeli military and government installations on Tuesday in response to the killing of senior figures in the Hezbollah and Hamas resistance groups.

“The army is planning a significant response to the Iranian missile attack, which, although it did not cause significant damage, cannot be left unpunished. The military is preparing a heavy attack,” the media claimed as reported by Anadolu.

The report also indicated that Israel expects support from other countries in the coalition against Iran as well as continued international coordination. The report added that Israel’s allies, including the United States (US), view Iran as a common threat.

In line with this, US Central Command commander General Michael Kurilla is expected to visit Israel this week to discuss joint strategy.

In a separate report, the Haaretz newspaper said Israel was planning a major military campaign against Iran, while also preparing for further missile attacks from Tehran in response to expected Israeli retaliation.

According to the newspaper, apart from preparing action against Iran, the military is increasing its military attacks in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

An unnamed Israeli military source, quoted by Army Radio, said, “Israel is preparing a large-scale attack on Iran. We expect significant cooperation from our regional partners during the attack.”

Yedioth Ahronoth daily also reported that European officials met with Israeli defense officials in Tel Aviv to coordinate a military response against Iran.

On Tuesday, Iran launched at least 180 missiles in response to the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Israel targeted Nasrallah and other Hezbollah commanders in an airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut on September 27. Haniyeh was killed in an attack on his residence during a visit to Tehran in late July. (Z-2)
