Israeli military: Hamas hands over two hostages to Red Cross

The army statement said the two women are currently en route to Israeli territory.

“Several more Israeli hostages are expected to be handed over to the Red Cross in the next few hours,” the statement added.

The army later announced that they had successfully returned to Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Hamas released 21-year-old French-Israeli citizen Mia Shem and 40-year-old Amit Soussan.

Following the news, French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the release of an Israeli-French citizen held hostage by Palestinian militants.

He added that Paris is currently making every effort to free the other hostages in the Gaza Strip.

On the X social network, the president said that Ms. Shem’s release was a great joy for her family and for France.

“I also stand in solidarity with everyone still held hostage by Hamas.” France, together with its partners, seeks their release as soon as possible,” said E. Macron.

On October 7, Hamas abducted Shem while she was attending the Supernova electronic music festival near the border with the Gaza Strip. She later appeared in a hostage video released by the militant group.

Israel is expected to release more Palestinian prisoners after the Jewish state and Palestinians agreed to extend a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip until Friday morning.
