THE Israeli military confirmed in its daily operational report that its commando brigade continues to operate at the headquarters of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in central Gaza. The Israeli military said its forces found weapons, explosives and drones at the site in recent days and that its warplanes struck Hamas fighters in the area.

Israel has targeted hundreds of UN buildings, hospitals and schools it says are being used by Palestinian militants for military purposes, but has provided no evidence to support claims of misuse by Hamas.

Israeli forces destroyed most of al-Shifa Hospital last November, accusing it of being a Hamas command center.

However, media reports and human rights groups say Israel’s claims are untrue and mistaken.

The Israeli military said it worked with the Shin Bet internal security organization to launch an airstrike in central Gaza that allegedly killed a senior official in Hamas’ internal security apparatus.

They also claimed to have killed a team leader in the Palestinian group’s military intelligence unit. Hamas has not commented on the Israeli statement.

Israel confirmed its ground forces continued their invasion of Rafah, where they allegedly killed dozens of Palestinian fighters in the last day with the help of air strikes. (Aljazeera/Z-2)
