A new liberation. Six new Israeli hostages have been released in Gaza and are “on the way to Israel”, announced the Israeli army on Thursday, November 30. This release comes a few hours after the return of two other hostages, including a French woman, to Israel. The armed wing of the Islamist movement, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, for its part reported that six hostages had “was handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip.” Three times as many Palestinian prisoners are now to be released from Israeli jails in the coming hours under the terms of the agreement which expires at 7 a.m. Friday. A renewed break? The American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, called on Thursday, November 30, for the extension of the truce between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip to “an eighth day and beyond”. The truce, renewed since November 24, should theoretically end on Friday at 7 a.m.
A liberated Frenchwoman. “It is a great joy that I share with his family and all French people”, reacted Emmanuel Macron on X after the release of 21-year-old Franco-Israeli Mia Schem. Mia Schem is the fourth hostage of French nationality (of the eight held captive or missing) to be released, after the young Erez Kalderon (12 years old), Sahar Kalderon (16 years old) and Eitan Yahalomi (12 years old).
Hamas claims responsibility for the attack in Jerusalem, which left at least three people dead. The Palestinian Islamist movement has also called for “escalation of resistance” against Israel after this attack committed Thursday morning. “The brothers Mourad Nemr (38 years old) and Ibrahim Nemr (30 years old) (…), members of the Ezzedine al-Qassam brigades of Sur Baher [un quartier de Jérusalem-Est] sacrificed themselves by leading an operation” which “killed three settlers [israéliens] and hurt others”says Hamas in a press release. “Two terrorists came by car and armed, one with an M-16 and the other with a pistol” opened fire according to Israeli police, who confirmed that the two attackers were shot dead.
The truce between Israel and Hamas extended until Friday. An agreement was reached on the edge by the two belligerents Thursday morning, shortly before the end of the military break. The Israeli army issued a statement declaring that the “operational pause” was going to “continue”, “in light of the efforts of the mediators to continue the process of releasing the hostages” detained in Gaza. Hamas, for its part, announced that the truce was extended to “a seventh day”.
