The administration of Al Awda Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip decided to evacuate it completely, on Wednesday morning, following the hospital’s private surgery department was targeted and three of its doctors were killed.
The director of Al-Awda Hospital, Dr. Ahmed Muhanna, narrated to Sky News Arabia the details of the terrifying moments that he, his patients, and the medical staff lived when the Israeli forces targeted Al-Awda Hospital, noting that:
The bombing came without warning or warning from the Israeli forces to evacuate. The bombing targeted the hospital’s surgical and orthopedic building, destroying it in moments. The Israeli bombing resulted in the killing of three doctors and a worker, as well as the injury of quite a few nurses. The injured nurses’ health condition is somewhat stable, but they are in a state of extreme panic. The surgical and orthopedic department, which was affected by the bombing, was completely demolished, and all patients and medical staff were transferred to the obstetrics and gynecology department in preparation for its evacuation.
Muhanna noted that Al Awda Hospital had intended, since the beginning of the Israeli operation in Gaza, not to receive displaced people, so that this would not be a justification for the Israeli bombing, but Israel bombed it even though there were only patients and doctors in it.
Muhanna fears that the Israeli forces will target the medical staff and patients scheduled to be displaced to the south on Wednesday, inside ambulances, especially since the Israeli forces have targeted the medical staff and ambulances more than once.
Muhanna said that the decision came in coordination with the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, and that the evacuation would take place through convoys sponsored by the Red Cross and the United Nations and include all patients, paramedics, and medical staff in the hospital.
Israeli army forces continue to target hospitals under the pretext of the presence of Hamas tunnels underneath them and detainees inside them, which the movement denies, and is questioned by several sources, especially in light of what happened in Al-Shifa Hospital.
