THE Israeli military says its forces killed two people in separate incidents in the occupied West Bank. One infiltrated an Israeli settlement and the other shot at soldiers after his car exploded.

Israel’s ambulance service said two men were wounded by gunfire in the incident. It did not identify them. There was no immediate comment from Palestinian authorities.

“Terrorists attempted to run over security guards at the entrance to the Karmei Tzur community some time ago and infiltrated the community. Soldiers who arrived at the scene killed one of the attackers who opened fire on them and are searching for others,” the military said, as reported by the Guardian, Sunday (1/9).

In another incident, a car caught fire and exploded at a gas station. It said troops sent to the scene shot and killed terrorists who got out of the vehicle and tried to attack them. The military said it was too early to know if the incidents were related.

Hamas issued a statement on Saturday (8/31) praising the “double heroic operation” in the West Bank, saying it was a clear message that the resistance will remain, prolonged and continuous as long as the occupation carries out its brutal aggression and targets the Palestinian people. The group did not claim direct responsibility for the attack.

Violence in the West Bank, which was already on the rise before the war in Gaza, has escalated recently, with increased Israeli military raids and street violence against settlers and Palestinians. (I-2)
