Palestine – The Israeli army arrested 16 Palestinians, including a journalist and former prisoners, in the occupied West Bank, bringing the total to 195 detainees since the start of its large-scale military operation in the northern West Bank on August 28.
The Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs (governmental) and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (civil society) said in a joint statement that “the Israeli occupation forces have arrested at least 16 citizens from the West Bank since yesterday evening (Wednesday) until Thursday morning, including journalist Ali Dar Ali, from Palestine TV and former prisoners.”
The statement added that “the number of detainees since the beginning of the military operation announced by the occupation (last Wednesday dawn) in the West Bank has risen to about 195,” and that the arrests included all the governorates of the West Bank.
Regarding the total number of detainees in the West Bank since the beginning of the war on Gaza on October 7, the statement indicated that more than 10,400 citizens from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, have been arrested, noting that this number does not include detainees from the Gaza Strip.
At dawn on August 28, the Israeli army began a large-scale military operation in the northern West Bank, which included the cities of Jenin and its camp, Tulkarm and its camps, the city of Tubas and the Far’a camp.
The next day, the army ended its operation in the Tulkarm and Tubas governorates, but returned again to resume it on Monday in the city of Tulkarm and its two camps.
This morning, the Israeli army withdrew from the Far’a refugee camp, hours after the raid, according to eyewitnesses.
The Israeli army had previously withdrawn from the Far’a camp at dawn last Thursday, after a military operation that lasted about 30 hours, during which 4 Palestinians were killed.
In Jenin, the military operation continues for the ninth day, as the Israeli army has pushed more forces into the city and its camp.
In parallel with its war on Gaza, the Israeli army expanded its operations and settlers escalated their attacks in the West Bank, resulting in the killing of 691, wounding 5,700, and arresting more than 10,400, according to official Palestinian institutions.
While the US-backed Israeli war on Gaza since October 7 has left more than 135,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that has killed dozens of children.
