The Jerusalem Post quoted an Israeli diplomatic source as saying that Tsurkov is being held by the Shiite Hezbollah Brigades and is “in good condition.”

Kataib Hezbollah is a faction of the Iranian-backed Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces that has been integrated into the Iraqi security forces

And neither the armed group nor anyone else has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of Tsurkov until now.

Netanyahu’s office added that the Israeli-Russian citizen, Elizabeth Tsurkov, had gone to Iraq in order to complete her doctoral research at Princeton University, and the statement indicated that Tsurkov had entered Iraq with her Russian passport.

“We see Iraq responsible for its fate and safety”

For its part, the Iraqi authorities did not make any statement on this matter. Meanwhile, a source in the Iraqi intelligence told AFP that the Iraqi authorities had received instructions to stop the investigation into Tsurkov’s disappearance.

And an informed Israeli official confirmed, on Wednesday evening, that “Israel is doing everything in its power to return the kidnapped citizen,” and indicated that those who kidnapped her knew in advance that she was of Israeli nationality.
