Although he stressed that he does not seek war, the official warned that his country “will not hesitate to use all its power if necessary.”
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Tuesday advised Hezbollah and its leader in Lebanon, Hassan Nasrallah, to avoid “mistakes they committed in the past and they paid dearly”. As he warned, if there were to be an escalation of violence and a conflict was generated, his country will return to that bordering country “to the Stone Age”.
In statements collected by The Times of Israel newspaper, Gallant warned that his country “will not hesitate to use all power” to obliterate “every inch of Hezbollah and Lebanon if necessary.”
On a visit to the Shebaa Farms, an area claimed by Lebanon that is located on the northern border of Israel, the minister remarked that his country “does not seek war”but that its intention is only “to protect the citizens, the soldiers and the sovereignty” of the country.
“We will know how to defend Israel and its citizens. The enemy must understand that when it comes to our security, we are all united,” he said.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have been on the rise in recent months as the party-militia lifted in April a camp in the demilitarized zone from the border
The camp is located in the area under the control of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), specifically to the north of the fence erected by Israel, but on the Israeli side of the Blue Line, which functions as the line of contact for the halt the fire.
In addition, during April more than a dozen missiles were launched into Israeli territory from Lebanon and, although the Israeli authorities blamed the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), they believe they might have been approved by Hezbollah.
The frontera between both countriesor is officially demarcated and stands on Shebaa Farms, a strip of land claimed by both Lebanon and Syria as their own, but under Israeli military control since 1967.
In fact, the UN has had a presence on the border between Lebanon and Israel since 1978, but UNIFIL in its current format dates from 2006.
