The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that two civilians were injured in an Israeli bombing near Damascus, the latest in a series of Israeli attacks on Syria this week.

The strikes come after an organization reported that Israeli air strikes on Friday killed dozens of soldiers and allied forces in Aleppo, north of Syria, exacerbating fears of the outbreak of a regional conflict.

Israel carried out hundreds of air strikes in Syria, and the frequency of raids increased after the outbreak of war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense said, “The Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting a number of points in the vicinity of Damascus. The aggression resulted in two civilians being injured and some material losses.”

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Israel targeted “the scientific research area in Jamraya in Damascus, which led to the outbreak of fire at the site.”

The strikes come after the Observatory, which relies on an extensive network of sources in Syria, reported that Israeli air strikes on Friday killed 53 people in Aleppo, including 38 soldiers and seven members of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

On Friday, the strikes targeted “missile depots belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah” near Aleppo Airport in northern Syria, according to the Observatory.

On Tuesday, strikes attributed to Israel led to the killing of 16 pro-Iranian fighters, including a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, according to the Observatory.
