The continuing escalation in the intensity of the exchange of bombardments between the Israeli army and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon has led to an increase in the number of displaced Lebanese since the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip following the Palestinian factions’ attack on the Gaza Strip on October 7.

Muhammad Hamdan, a Lebanese resident in the south of the country, complains that the Israeli army is targeting areas that he describes as safe and from which no fire can be fired.

Hamdan said: “No one is attacking Israel from here. Why are they bombing us? Ultimately, they are targeting civilians. There are only civilians. As you can see, no one is carrying weapons in the streets.”

The intensity of the Israeli bombing escalated, exceeding the border sites and reaching the city of Tyre, where thousands of displaced people from the south arrived.

Hassan Baher from Tyre said: “Their numbers are increasing every day, especially when new villages are attacked. Naturally, there are more displaced people. Look on the map and you will see that the red attack zone is approaching.”

Mirna Yazbek was forced to flee to Tire with her family for fear of mutual bombing. She says that displacement in large numbers has led to higher prices for temporary rentals.

Yazbek adds: “The price is expensive, 500 US dollars, a small house and an apartment and we missed a lot. There are a lot of basics that are not available. There is no refrigerator and no blanket.”

Heba Yazbek says: “We have not been in our homes in our village for four months. We cannot go to see our house if it is damaged or destroyed.”
