The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (official) said: About two thousand male and female soldiers were classified as injured as a result of the battles since October 7 and that they needed medical care, including 200 who were in the first three weeks of the ground operation.

She added that between 75 and 80% of these recruits – who were classified as wounded in battle – were able to return to the ranks of their units in the field and continue their participation.

According to the authority, an injured person on the battlefield is defined as a soldier who was exposed to an event such as gunfire, confrontation, or injury, or who witnessed serious injuries and dangerous scenes of others, which led to a decline in his level of performance.

Damage at the functional level

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority continued: Damage at the functional level can be manifested in his reactions, such as isolation, silence, anxiety, tension, or the general difficult feeling that accompanies the soldier in such cases.

She explained that as part of the procedures for dealing with the matter and the principle of psychological treatment set by the Army Medical Corps, it is advisable to return the injured soldier to activity and participation as soon as possible.

The authority stated that since October 7, the army has opened two mental health centers in southern Israel, in addition to a telephone call center staffed by psychologists and psychiatrists who are in reserve service.

Earlier today, the Israeli army stated that the number of its deaths – since the beginning of the war on October 7 last year – had risen to 401 soldiers and officers.
