Israeli army says ten ‘terrorists’ killed in operation at West Bank refugee camp

The Israel Defense Forces said on Saturday that security forces had killed 10 “terrorists” in an operation that is still ongoing in Nur al-Shams, a refugee camp in Tulkarm, in the north of the occupied West Bank. .

“IDF and Israel Border Police forces continue extensive counter-terrorism activity in the Nur Shams area. So far, security forces have eliminated ten terrorists during encounters, detained eight wanted suspects, exposed routes and devices explosives and searched structures,” the Israeli army said in a statement.

“Security forces located and destroyed a terrorist explosives laboratory and confiscated numerous weapons, including pistols, M16 rifles and additional military equipment.”

The IDF said eight of its soldiers and one Border Force officer were wounded.

Palestinian reports: Earlier on Saturday, the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, said five people had been killed during Israel’s operation in Nur al-Shams. One of the dead was a child, according to Wafa, while the Palestinian Health Ministry said another was 16 years old.

Wafa cited witnesses who said the Israeli army was holding the “bodies of the victims and preventing ambulances from reaching them.”

The bulldozers destroyed water and sewage networks and caused power outages, according to Wafa, while “dozens of young people” were detained.

The operation appears to be one of the largest in the West Bank since October 7.
