The Israeli army continues its ground operation in Gaza. A hostage was released during the night from Sunday to Monday. Tensions are increasing in the West Bank and on the Lebanese border.

Three days following launching a major ground offensive in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli army attacked the landlocked city from two sides on Monday. The operation, carried out by troops and tanks, was supported by massive attacks from the sea.

Israeli army says it struck more than 600 military targets in recent days. During these incursions, four Hamas leaders and “dozens of terrorists” were killed in the underground tunnels.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad announced on Monday that they had “repulsed” an Israeli attack in Gaza. Tensions are increasing in the West Bank, where four Palestinians were killed during an IDF raid in Jenin. “The campaign by Israeli forces in the West Bank has been intensified. Israel has arrested more than 1,000 Hamas members in this territory,” said Sarit Zehavi.

During the night, Israeli Air Force strikes targets in Lebanon and Syria, following Hamas and the Fajr Forces, a group affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, fired around 20 rockets into Israel. “Hezbollah’s objective is to maintain part of the Israeli army in the north,” she adds.

A hostage released

During a ground operation, during the night from Sunday to Monday, the Israeli army managed to free soldier Ori Megidish, a hostage held by Hamas since the attack on October 7.

According to Israeli authorities, Hamas is holding 239 hostages.

Shortly before, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the death of the German-Israeli hostage, Shani Louk. Israeli President Isaac Herzog told German newspaper Bild that “her skull was found” and that her killers had “cut off her head” following she experienced “unfathomable horrors” in Gaza.

Number of hostages held by Hamas rises to 239. Around forty people are still missing.

Hamas says 50 hostages were killed in Israeli strikes. On Monday, the terrorist organization released a video of three female hostages demanding that they be exchanged for prisoners.

According to Israeli authorities, more than 1,400 people were killed during the attack of October 7. According to the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health, more than 8,000 Palestinians killed in Israeli bombings.

Humanitarian situation

The population of Gaza finds itself in a dire humanitarian situation. UN Middle East envoy Tor Wennesland announced on Monday an increase in the arrival of humanitarian aid in Gaza, where 30 trucks entered on Sunday. Moreover, internet has been restored in the area.

But this is not enough. Drastic shortages of water, food and fuel have sparked civil unrest. People stormed UN distribution centers. At least four of these centers have been put out of action.
