Israeli Army Bombs Islamic Jihad Sites in Gaza: Latest Escalation and International Calls for Calm

On Thursday night, the Israeli army announced that it had bombed Islamic Jihad military sites in Gaza, in a continuation of the escalation with the besieged Strip.

The army said that it had bombed two operations headquarters, four rocket launchers, two military sites, and two locations for launching mortar shells, belonging to the organization.

On Thursday, Israeli media reported, quoting an Israeli political source, who described it as a source, that Israel will continue bombing if rockets are fired from the Gaza Strip, indicating that the situation is heading towards further escalation, despite the successive international calls for calm.

The source, whose name was not mentioned, said: “If the rockets continue to be fired from the Strip, the bombing will continue from us, and we will respond to fire with fire, and make the Jihad movement pay a heavy price.”

He added, “The equation has changed. We will respond to any attempt to direct terrorism in the West Bank before people in the Gaza Strip.”

This Israeli threat comes as an Israeli was killed following a missile fired from the Gaza Strip directly hit a building in the Rehovot settlement near Tel Aviv, on Thursday, according to Israeli media.

The death is the first from the Israeli side, since the start of the latest escalation with Gaza, on Tuesday, compared to 28 dead from the Palestinian side and dozens of injured.

The armed factions in Gaza are intensifying their firing of missiles at Israeli areas, following air raids that killed two leaders of the Islamic Jihad movement, on Thursday.
