BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) — Airstrikes, blamed on Israel, on the Syrian capital early Wednesday seriously injured a soldier, according to Syrian state media.
Citing military sources, the SANA news agency reported that the attacks on southwestern Damascus also caused “material damage,” but did not provide further details.
Syrian air defenses shot down some of the missiles, it added.
Israeli authorities had no immediate comment.
Israel, which has vowed to curb the Iranian presence in the neighboring country, has carried out hundreds of attacks on targets in Syrian government-controlled areas in recent years, but rarely acknowledges them.
The last alleged Israeli airstrike in Syria took place on May 29 and hit points close to Damascus. Israel has also reportedly attacked the international airport in the northern city of Aleppo on several occasions in the past year, often rendering the infrastructure inoperative.
