AT LEAST 16 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike that hit a school outside the Gaza Strip, Palestinian authorities said Saturday (6/7).
Dozens of others were wounded in the attack on the building housing thousands of refugees in the Nuseirat refugee camp.
Video from the scene showed adults and children screaming amid streets filled with smoke and debris as they tried to help the injured.
The Israeli military (IDF) claimed the airstrike hit terrorists operating in a building located in the Al-Jaouni School area.
The BBC reported that the attack hit the upper floors of a school building near the market. About 7,000 people were using the building as a shelter.
A woman reported that several children were killed in the airstrike while learning to read the Quran.

“This is the fourth time Israel has hit the school without warning,” the woman said.
Through X, the IDF confirmed their attack on the school building, saying they had taken steps to minimize civilian casualties.
The IDF said the Hamas group used the location as a base to launch attacks on Israeli soldiers.

“Hama continues to systematically violate international law by using civilian buildings and civilian populations as shields when carrying out terror attacks once morest Israel,” the IDF claimed.
Meanwhile, Hamas accused the Israeli attack of being a massacre of civilians.
The majority of those killed in the Israeli attacks were women, children and the elderly. (bbc/Z-1)
