Israeli Air Strikes Kill Four Hezbollah Members in Southern Lebanon: Xinhua News

Marjayoun, southern Lebanon, March 1, 2024 (Xinhua) Four Hezbollah members were killed today (Friday) in Israeli air strikes that targeted several villages in the border region of southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese military and medical sources.

Military sources told Xinhua News Agency that Israeli warplanes carried out seven air strikes on several towns in the border area, while Israeli artillery fired regarding 40 shells on regarding nine towns in southern Lebanon.

The sources added that four raids targeted the town of Ramieh in the central sector of southern Lebanon.

Three raids also targeted the towns of Aita al-Shaab and Jabal Balat in the central sector of the border region.

According to military and medical sources, the non-final result of the Israeli raids on the town of Ramiya reported the killing of four Hezbollah members and the wounding of three others.

Official sources in the Civil Defense told Xinhua that “members of the Civil Defense and the Islamic Health Authority went to the town of Ramiya equipped with several bulldozers and cranes and are still working to remove the rubble with the help of optical detectors.”

The sources added that they were able to recover four bodies and three wounded people who were transported by ambulance to Bint Jbeil Governmental Hospital, and a search is underway among the rubble for missing persons.

Hezbollah mourned four of its members, saying that they “rose as martyrs on the road to Jerusalem,” without any additional details.

Hezbollah said in two separate statements, “At 12 midnight on Friday, the Mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance shot down an Israeli army helicopter in Wadi al-Uzziya. They also shot down a drone in the Labouneh area in the western sector of the border area,” without any additional details.

Lebanese security sources explained to ((Xinhua)) that “a Lebanese army patrol, during a combing operation in coordination with the United Nations forces operating in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), found an Israeli drone in the Labouneh area adjacent to the Naqoura area.”

The sources stated that “the march was carrying leaflets, and an engineering unit of the Lebanese army worked to dismantle them and transfer them to one of the Lebanese military centers.”

Today, Hezbollah announced in a statement that its military wing (the Islamic Resistance) launched a “swooping attack march” towards a group of Israeli soldiers that were preparing to position themselves in the Ma’yan Baruch settlement, noting that they were “directly hit.”

The resistance also attacked a deployment of Israeli soldiers in the vicinity of the Jal al-Alam site and the Ruwaisat al-Alam, al-Manara, al-Baghdadi, Ramim, and Hadab al-Bustan sites.

On the other hand, the Israeli army announced this evening that it attacked Hezbollah targets in the Ramiya area.

The Israeli army spokesman for the Arab media, Avichai Adraee, said in a statement on the (X) platform that fighter jets and artillery vehicles bombed “terrorist infrastructure” and two military buildings belonging to Hezbollah in the Ramieh area.

He added, “A number of saboteurs were spotted as they left one of the two military buildings, where a plane bombed them and killed them a short time later,” without further details in this regard.

The border between Lebanon and Israel has witnessed exchanges of gunfire and bombardment between Hezbollah and armed factions on the one hand and the Israeli army on the other since the outbreak of war between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel in the Gaza Strip on October 7th.

The confrontations on the Lebanese side since the eighth of last October until today have led to the killing of 329 people, including 223 members of Hezbollah, 12 from the Amal Movement, 25 from Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Lebanon, and 61 civilians, including three journalists, 5 from the Civil Defense and a soldier from the Lebanese Army.
