Israel: Two Cases Of Zika Virus Infection Detected In Past Two Months

In Israel, two cases of Zika virus infection have been discovered in the past two months.

The cases were detected in a man and a woman returning from a trip to Thailand.

The Zika virus is transmitted to humans through the bite of an Aedes mosquito, and in some cases it can be transmitted sexually.

Professor Eli Schwartz of Sheba Hospital in Ramat Gan, who treated the two patients, said that due to the decline in the coronavirus and the reopening of borders, the risk of contracting Zika and other diseases that are not common in the country increases.

In recent months, at least three other cases of Zika infection have been found in travelers from Germany and the UK who had been to Thailand.

Typical symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain and muscle pain.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has clarified that there is a risk of contracting the virus mainly in East Asia and South America.

For pregnant women, the virus can have an effect on the developing fetus, so they are advised not to travel to risk areas.
