targeting airports

During the past months, Israel has intensified its attacks on Syrian airportsaccording to what several regional diplomatic and intelligence sources previously confirmed to Archyde.com, in order to disrupt Tehran’s increasing use of air supply lines to supply its allies in Syria and Lebanon, including Hezbollah, with weapons.

In the context, a Western intelligence source, familiar with the objectives of the recent Israeli strikes, confirmed that the motive behind this shift (targeting airports extensively) is Iran’s increasing use of commercial airlines to transport weapons to the airports of Damascus and Aleppo instead of land transport. He said that Israeli intelligence indicated that “more flights were used” to transport weapons and small military equipment that might be smuggled on regular flights from Tehran, especially following the disruption of land transport operations between Syria and Iraq.

It is noteworthy that since the outbreak of the war in Syria, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes, without claiming most of them, targeting Iranian militia sites or Hezbollah centers, smuggling or weapons storage sites.
