Israel Seeks Gaza Ceasefire as Violence Escalates, Hospital Targeted

Hopes for Gaza Ceasefire Amid Escalating Violence

Israel Sends Delegation to Cairo
WhileGaza Hospital Becomes Target

A technical delegation from Israel recently visited Cairo for discussions on the ceasefire in Gaza.

The delegation met with officials from Egyptian intelligence for several hours while seeking insights into the Hamas movement’s position.

At the end of the meeting, the Israeli delegation received a detailed proposal outlining the latest developments concerning a prisoner exchange and a ceasefire in Gaza.

The delegation is expected to return to Cairo within days with Israel’s official response to the Egyptian proposal. Egyptian sources familiar with the discussions say this round of negotiations is being taken seriously by all parties involved.

They attribute the heightened earnestness to the flexibility shown by Hamas, which they believe signifies an increased likelihood of reaching a solution before the deadline set by the incoming US administration.

Hamas confirmed in a recent communication with a senior Egyptian official that they are prioritizing the suffering of Gazans over reacting to threats made by US President-elect Donald Trump.

Driven by this commitment, Hamas has sought to facilitate negotiations by agreeing to form a tense Gaza management committee with the Fatah movement despite contrasting opinions on the matter.

Sources close to the discussions confirmed that Hamas has prioritized reaching a quick resolution to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip despite reservations about some details proposed by Israeli authorities during the recent talks in Cairo.

Despite the renewed push for a ceasefire, violence continues unabated in Gaza.

Palestinian officials have reported at least 29 deaths and numerous injuries resulting from continuous Israeli bombing in northern Gaza, specifically targeting the vicinity of Kamal Adwan hospital.

The hospital director, Hossam Abu Safiya, reported multiple Israeli air raids on the hospital grounds since dawn, leading to a significant number of casualties, including four doctors.

“There were a series of airstrikes on the northern and western sides of the hospital accompanied by intense direct fire,” Abu Safiya said in a statement released earlier today.

“The casualties include four martyrs from the hospital staff. The situation is dire,” he added.

The Palestinian Civil Defense emphasized that the Israeli military stormed the hospital, removing patients and accompanying family members before taking a number of Palestinians to an undisclosed location. Reports indicate that tanks and armored vehicles were present inside and around the hospital during the raid.

This is not the first time the hospital has come under attack.

The Israeli army has repeatedly targeted the hospital during the ongoing conflict. Pummelled in late November, the attack tragically claimed the life of Ahmed Al-Kahlot, the director of the intensive care unit

The attacks during the last months have led to a consistent flow of casualties, pushing the death toll to 44,612, while the number of injured has reached 105,834.

“The Israeli army committed three massacres targeting Palestinian families, resulting in the deaths of 32 and injuring 95 within the past 24 hours,” the Gaza Ministry of Health announced today.

The ongoing conflict and relentless attacks have forced thousands of residents from Beit Lahia to evacuate their homes, fleeing the intense destruction and escalating violence.
