Jerusalem ∙ After the failure of negotiations to extend the cease-fire, Israel has resumed attacks on Gaza. 178 Palestinians were killed yesterday morning in heavy Israeli bombardments in the cities of Khan Yunis and Rafah in southern Gaza. 589 people were injured.

The attack is centered on areas where thousands of displaced people have sought refuge from northern Gaza. Many houses in northern and central Gaza were also bombed. Israel issued notices to those in the eastern region of Khan Yunis asking them to evacuate. With this, people started fleeing once more on foot to the western region.

The ceasefire that started on November 24 ended at 7 am yesterday. Within 2 hours the Israeli attack resumed. With this, the aid delivery to Gaza through the Rafah Corridor also stalled. Trucks carrying medicine, food and fuel were stopped at the Egyptian border.

The cease-fire failed when a common understanding might not be reached to continue the exchange of hostages and prisoners. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with Israeli-Palestinian officials on Thursday. Israel did not accept the US demand to continue the ceasefire.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the war will continue until Hamas is eliminated. More than 15,000 people have been killed in Gaza so far in Israeli attacks. Hamas released 105 hostages during the week-long ceasefire. Israel also freed 240 Palestinian prisoners.

Modi’s meeting with Israeli President

Dubai – Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog. The meeting was during the climate summit. Modi expressed condolences over the loss of life in the October 7 attack by Hamas. He suggested that the Palestinian issue should be resolved through negotiation.
