The sources believe that the reluctance to publish the position of the legal advisor of the Israeli occupation government, Gali Bharav-Miyara, and the bureaucratic procedures and petitions submitted by Israeli organizations in this regard, will delay the conclusion of the agreement on the demarcation of the maritime borders until following the Israeli elections next November.

The channel indicated that there are other thorny issues that hinder the signing of the agreement proposal, saying, “Lebanon refuses to organize an official signing ceremony, on the other hand, Israel is interested in organizing a special event, but the issue has not been resolved yet.”

The channel stated that, “So far, Bennett has not announced his support for Prime Minister Yair Lapid. Bennett is still studying the agreement and conducting marathon discussions on the issue.” The channel quoted figures close to Bennett as confirming that “it is unlikely that he will announce his position before the cabinet session, and in any case, he is awaiting the position of the legal advisor to the government. His staff is also examining the question of whether the veto granted to Bennett is relevant and feasible in the issue of the agreement with Lebanon.”

Netanyahu claimed that the proposed agreement grants Lebanon “territories under Israeli sovereignty.”

A hearing to consider a petition once morest the agreement

In the midst of controversy and the Israeli bureaucratic reluctance on the issue of the maritime border demarcation agreement with Lebanon, the Israeli Supreme Court announced that it had scheduled a session to consider the petition once morest the proposed border delimitation agreement at the end of this month. And the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper’s website reported that “the Supreme Court decided to consider the appeal once morest the possible agreement with Lebanon, and gave the State Prosecution a deadline to present the state’s position in this regard, until October 27, a few days before the scheduled Knesset elections at the beginning of next month”.

On the other hand, the newspaper said that “the Supreme Court rejected the petitioners’ request to issue a precautionary order, to issue a decision prohibiting any signing of the agreement by the appearance of one party without the state’s response and before the petition is decided upon.”

Yesterday, Monday, the right-wing Israeli organization, Lavi, submitted a petition to the Israeli Supreme Court, in which it requested that the occupation government refer the crystallized agreement with Lebanon to the Knesset’s approval before it becomes effective, and not be satisfied with the approval of the current government.

The organization calls in the petition, according to what the newspaper reported, to prevent the “transitional” Lapid government from signing the agreement, which may impose binding facts on the next government, and to freeze direct and indirect negotiations with Lebanon.
