This followingnoon, Tuesday, Israel launched artillery shelling east of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army said that it targeted a cell in southern Gaza that was intending to launch an anti-tank missile. The Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip announced that two Palestinians were killed as a result of an Israeli bombing of a car east of Al-Qarara in Khan Yunis.
There was also news of the assassination of the head of the missile unit in the Al-Quds Brigades, Khaled Al-Farra, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Today, Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an expanded assessment meeting of the security situation, prior to the cabinet meeting in Tel Aviv.
The evaluation meeting was attended by the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Strategic Affairs, the Chief of Staff and a number of officials.
“I gave instructions to the army to remain ready for a multi-front battle,” Netanyahu said. “We will punish anyone who tries to harm Israel’s security.”

Earlier in the day, Hazem Qassem, a spokesman for Hamas, had said that the movement would participate in the response to the Israeli attack, which resulted, today, Tuesday, in the killing of 13 people, including leaders of the Islamic Jihad movement.
Qassem confirmed that Hamas “is present in the joint operations room that leads the operations to respond to this crime.”

Daoud Shehab, spokesman for the Islamic Jihad Movement, announced earlier that the response of the Palestinian factions to the Israeli raids that targeted the Gaza Strip would be “unlimited” and would include all Palestinian factions. He said, “The Palestinian response means that the response is one, unified in the name of all the Palestinian people.”
On Tuesday, the Israeli army launched raids targeting Islamic Jihad sites in Gaza, killing 13 people, including 3 of the movement’s most prominent military leaders and civilians, prompting the Palestinian movement to vow a response.
The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said that among the dead were 4 children, while it stated that 20 other people were injured as a result of the Israeli raids.
Shehab stated that there are no contacts with mediators to mitigate the force of the response to the Israeli attack, adding that “there is no mediation from Egypt or any other party at the present time, and talking regarding mediation is premature… The enemy does not respect mediation.”
