Lara Asdi, a 24-year-old English teacher from Deir al-Asad, an Arab town in Israel, has a unique message for anyone who criticizes her profession by wearing a hijab.
According to Reuters, Lara is training for her live show with a local circus troupe and is also learning on the high-altitude trapeze.
Lara said, ‘When I was in primary school, second or third grade and I was very young, there were a lot of activities at school.
‘A circus group performed for us and that’s the group I’m a part of today. I watched the performance and I enjoyed the flexible body performance the most.’
Along with the social backlash, Lara was also criticized. That some people find their faith and head dress inappropriate.

Lara said, “One sentence that was said to me a few years ago and I will never forget it and it still sticks in my mind is ‘You are distorting the image of Islam’, or that ‘Your dress is appropriate. No.’
She said: ‘I understand that my dress and my life are not perfect, if they were perfect I would not be human, I would be an angel, no one is perfect and I am only responsible for my representation and in society. I am not responsible for any particular class.’
She added: ‘Family support is essential to embarking on a career that many still believe is not suitable for women.’
Lara hopes that through her work she can help raise awareness of gender equality and inspire women to pursue their passions.
