Israel – Israeli officials revealed that Tel Aviv informed Washington in advance of its attack on Lebanon. The Israeli website “Walla” quoted an Israeli official as saying that “the United States of America was informed in advance of the strike.”
According to the official, “Israel is moving alone against the Lebanese factions’ movement, but in full coordination with the United States, and the update that President Joe Biden’s administration received about the attack was not last minute.”
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari also announced that the army is working in coordination with the US army, whose commander arrived in Jordan yesterday.
On the other hand, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that President Biden is closely following the events, communicating with his national security team, and that he has directed senior administration officials to communicate with their Israeli counterparts.
“At the direction of President Biden, senior US officials are in constant communication with their Israeli counterparts,” National Security Council spokesman Sean Savitt said in a statement, adding, “We will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself, and we will continue to work to maintain regional stability.”
In addition, the US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) confirmed that it is “ready to support Israel,” after the Israeli army announced launching extensive strikes in southern Lebanon to prevent a “major attack” by the Lebanese factions movement.
“We continue to monitor the situation closely, and we have been very clear that the United States stands ready to support the defense of Israel,” a Pentagon spokesman said.
