Israel-Hamas ceasefire truce deal extended to Friday
Khan Younis: The implementation of the four-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas has been extended indefinitely. The previous day it was announced that Hamas would release the hostages on Thursday morning and in response to this, the Palestinians held by Israel would be released. However, despite the expiry of this deadline, neither side took action. International media reported that both sides are raising technical issues.
The Israeli official said that according to the agreement, the process should be delayed and may start today. Israel agreed to a four-day ceasefire following mediation talks between Qatar, Egypt and the US. According to the agreement, 50 people held hostage by Hamas and 150 Palestinians in prison will be released by Israel. It is also agreed that the ceasefire will be extended for every day when every ten hostages are freed.
Israel’s national security adviser, Zachi Hanebi, said talks were ongoing. Qatar also stated that the exact time will be decided soon.
Meanwhile, the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry claimed the death toll in Gaza had risen to 13,300. Hamas said it did not include deaths from hospitals in northern Gaza. 6000 people are missing. Hamas said that they are believed to be among the ruins of the destroyed building.
