According to the UN, more than 1,300 buildings have been completely destroyed in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. The UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) said on Saturday that 5,540 residential units were affected. Around 3,750 other houses were so badly damaged that they are currently uninhabitable.

Last Saturday, the radical Islamic group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel with thousands of rockets and fighters on the ground. According to Israeli figures, more than 1,300 people, most of them civilians, were killed. In addition, around 150 people were deported from Israel to the Gaza Strip.

In response to the major attack by Hamas, Israel has put the Gaza Strip under constant fire in recent days. According to Palestinian information on Friday evening, at least 1,900 people were killed, including more than 600 children.

On Friday, Israel called on around 1.1 million Palestinians in the north of the Gaza Strip to leave their homes and seek safety in the south of the territory. The UN criticized the request and warned of a humanitarian catastrophe. Israel has now massed tens of thousands of soldiers on the border with the Gaza Strip and a ground offensive is generally expected soon.
