Israel evacuates a number of its embassies in anticipation of Iranian retaliation

Israel – The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported yesterday, Friday, that Tel Aviv evacuated a number of its embassies, in anticipation of Iranian retaliation after the assassination of Mohammad Zahedi, a commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, in the Syrian capital, Damascus, last Monday.

The Authority (officially) explained that several embassies abroad were evacuated after assessing the situation by the General Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in anticipation of “any Iranian retaliation for the killing of a senior commander in the Revolutionary Guards in Damascus.”

She added: “Some embassy workers were transferred to alternative locations, and were asked not to appear at public events at this stage.”

The broadcasting authority did not specify the names of the countries in which the embassies were evacuated.

In this context, the commission noted that Israel is “preparing” for Iranian attacks within three scenarios: attacking Israel by launching missiles, drones, and missiles from Lebanese, Syrian, Iraqi, and Yemeni territory, or Iran itself launching ballistic missiles directly from its territory toward Israel.

The third possibility is that armed cells will attempt to infiltrate Israel through its land borders, according to the same source.

Regarding the timing of this, the Commission stated that expectations “indicate that today will be decisive,” because it is the last Friday of the month of Ramadan, and it is considered a particularly sensitive day (International Jerusalem Day).

It also announced that the army was imposing “a state of high alert, not only in the field of air defense, but also in intelligence systems.”

She pointed out that “in the context of the possible events mentioned in the assessments of the situation by the Israeli army, the last Friday of Ramadan, on which Iranians celebrate Jerusalem Day in Iran, was identified as a possible date for retaliation.”

She added: “Government ministries are preparing for a more serious emergency, and the Mini-Ministerial Council for Political and Security Affairs met yesterday evening and discussed Iranian threats.”

The authority quoted an unnamed Israeli political official: “There is no real possibility of a large-scale escalation with Iran. There are preparations to respond, but this does not mean a large-scale war.”

She also indicated that hospitals and schools in the north and center of the country “are currently preparing for potentially severe scenarios.”

On Monday, the official Iranian “IRNA” agency reported that the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus was subjected to an Israeli missile attack.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced, in a statement, that 7 of its members, including Zahedi, were killed in the attack on the mission in Damascus.
