The Israeli Army detected the launch of 45 rockets from the Lebanon throughout Saturday, according to a statement issued this followingnoon, in a new peak in the exchanges of fire with the Shiite militia Hezbollah that began on Friday.
“Some 30 missiles were detected crossing from Lebanon, several were intercepted by air defence fighters and the rest fell in open areas,” the army reported of a barrage of attacks targeting the Golan Heights in northern Israel.
Some of the rockets damaged a factory in the kibbutz (farming community) of Amir, and in other parts of the region the fall of these projectiles triggered fires that firefighters are still trying to extinguish.
Shortly followingwards, another volley of 10 shells triggered Israeli alarm in the north-west of the country. “There were no casualties,” the army said.
In the mid-followingnoon, a third salvo of five more rockets crossed the northern divide, although most were intercepted by air defence fighters.
Since yesterday, the number of Hezbollah attacks on Israeli territory has increased significantly, coinciding with the death of several militants in recent days and the bombing of Tel Aviv by the Yemeni Houthis, in which a “human error” by the Army led to the explosion of a drone in the Israeli capital that killed one person.
The Israeli armed forces assured EFE that the Shiite militia Hezbollah launched at least 80 rockets once morest Israel on Friday, in at least 16 attacks that the group reported throughout the day.
The border between Israel and Lebanon is experiencing its highest point of tension since 2006, with an intense exchange of fire since October, which has claimed the lives of at least 537 people, most of them on the Lebanese side and in the ranks of Hezbollah, which has confirmed more than 330 casualties of militants and commanders, some in Syria, while in Israel 30 people have died in the north (18 soldiers and 12 civilians).
