IDF says it cannot “determine with certainty” the damage to the Nasser Medical Complex, where a 13-year-old girl died
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it might not say with certainty what had caused the damage to the Nasser Medical Complex in southern Gaza, where a 13-year-old girl died and several others were injured.
“Upon receiving reports of damage to Al-Nasser Hospital, an initial review was carried out. At this time, it is not possible to determine with certainty what the source of the damage to the hospital was,” the Israeli military said in a statement sent to CNN on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Health Ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza said a 13-year-old girl, Dina Abu Mohsen, was killed by a projectile that landed in part of the Nasser compound.
The teenager was being treated in the Khan Younis compound in southern Gaza following an earlier attack led to the amputation of her leg, according to the ministry.
Some context: Three other people were injured in the attack on the Tahrir building, a spokesman for the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, told CNN.
Al-Qudra said Israeli troops attacked the Tahrir building with an artillery shell that “penetrated the wall but did not explode.”
CNN has consulted weapons experts regarding images of the projectile that were posted on social media. While its exact location might not be verified, the remains of the projectile were seen during a longer video clearly taken inside the Nasser compound.
Marc Garlasco, a former United Nations military analyst and war crimes investigator, told CNN that the gun remains are consistent with an Israeli illumination projectile.
“This is a variety of 155mm artillery. I am totally sure that yellow is enlightenment,” Garlasco said.
